Stock Market Timings
Understanding market timings helps you plan your trades efficiently. Below are the trading hours applicable for Equity and Commodity (Non-Agri) segments.
Equity Market Timings (NSE & BSE)
The equity market operates Monday to Friday (except exchange holidays) and is divided into three sessions:
Session | Time | Description |
Pre-Market Session | 9:00 AM – 9:15 AM | Order collection and opening price discovery phase |
Normal Trading Session | 9:15 AM – 3:30 PM | Regular market hours for buying and selling shares |
Post-Market Session | 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM | Limited session to place orders at the day’s closing price |
Pre-Market Session (9:00 AM – 9:15 AM)
This session helps reduce volatility at market open and determine the opening price of stocks. It is divided into three phases:
- 9:00 AM – 9:07 AM: Orders can be placed, modified, or cancelled
- 9:07 AM – 9:08 AM: Order matching takes place to determine opening price
- 9:08 AM – 9:15 AM: Buffer period — no order actions allowed
Normal Trading Session (9:15 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Orders can be freely placed, modified, or cancelled
- Trades are executed in real time at market prices
Post-Market Session (3:30 PM – 4:00 PM)
This session allows trading at the day’s closing price.

Important Notes
- Markets remain closed on exchange-declared trading holidays.
- IPO-listed stocks begin trading at 10:00 AM on listing day, unlike regular stocks which start at 9:15 AM.
